Working to Make a Good Thing Better

The Center has developed flexible machining centers that deterministically generate, fine grind, prepolish and center an optical surface in one automated sequence. COM-developed deterministic microgrinding technology has been implemented at numerous APOMA member companies, and the Center continues to improve process yields and further decrease cycle times. The Center is now working to integrate developments in deterministic microgrinding with advances in computer-controlled magnetorheological finishing that will make real-time surface figure correction a reality on the factory floor.
